Welcome to CELEBRATE week!
CELEBRATE – to rejoice in or have special festivities to mark a happy day, event, etc); to praise widely
Once again the serendipity and synergy of Tamara and January’s contribution amazes. January celebrates a Teachers birthday and Tamara commissions her child to create for us! Know that these two women live on opposite coasts and do not collaborate prior to sending me their offerings each week. So often it is as if they speak from the same place!
Thank you both so much!
This week we are celebrating!
Mark These Moments
by January Handl
Yesterday was the 85th birthday
of a dear friend, colleague and teacher–
So of course we threw a party.
We crowned her with a flower wreath
that the children whom she teaches made for her;
told our stories of her grace in our lives,
bringing pages of photos and notes and
other bits and pieces of memorabilia
that notate the life well-lived.
We toasted her life and ate cake in her honor,
feasting and drinking – breaking bread together,
laughing, crying, singing, dancing
as community, as friends, as family.
When we know change is the only constant
and all reach the same end at the finish,
no matter how each pathway may differ,
to celebrate the lights along the road
of this life
is to savor
both our individual challenges and triumphs
and our group existence-
we can endure the dark moments
with these memories of celebration
keeping us warm,
holding hope and love safe.
Today I’d like you to consider that a celebration does not require a particular event or holiday. Yes, let us mark these special moments but let us not be stingy in doing so.
This week our Bliss Initiative is to find reasons to celebrate — and to do it! Rain is falling? Celebrate! Dinner is going to be late? Celebrate! Your family is together? Celebrate! Your family is apart? Celebrate! (and plan another celebration for when you are all together again!) He put the top on the toothpaste? Celebrate! She cleaned her room without asking? Celebrate!…. you get the idea!!
Celebration is the way we mark our time. Why not honor all of it?
“Life is what you celebrate. All of it. Even its end.” ~ Joanne Harris
What will you celebrate?
Let us know in the comments!
Tamara and January are here each Monday to help set the mood for the week!
My mission is fulfilling a lifelong desire to be a creative professional making a positive difference in the lives of those I encounter. Photographing unique personalities in a fun and relaxed environment. To challenge myself creatively, listen deeply and take a damn good picture.
See Tamara’s photography on her Facebook Page.
January Handl is first and always a mother, has been a preschool teacher and parent educator for 25 years. She is currently lives in Aptos California AND simply in awe of existence.
She calls her photo “hot tub bliss” 🙂
