Welcome to Mindflness week!
MINDFULNESS –an attentive awareness of the reality of things, especially of the present moment; thoughtful, aware
Look at that cat. So in the moment.
Look at yourself. Where are you?
Me, I’m trying to be here with you, yet I find my mind wandering to that next thing I want to get to. I have a schedule and for what ever reason this is taking longer than the time I allotted. I keep thinking, “This should be easier, just be here now.” and yet I find myself thinking of next and later and someday.
January, in the “painful, beautiful, difficult, growth-inducing, running the gamut of the love spectrum” of supporting her mother’s death finds the blessing in NOW.
A compass set on absolute LOVE
by January Handl
My momma is in the process
of passing from this earthly realm,
and her final lessons-
this present moment,
loving each other through
to deep joy
And this present moment
is all we really ever have
The little ones teach me this
they carry no burdens of living’s baggage,
their chains of experience yet to be fastened
from past wounds, disappointments or
They don’t have anxious fears from
what possibility might throw
at them in the coming dawn…
They live, they dwell,
they inhabit, with every
strand of their being
This gift , this precious blessing
of this present moment
All we ever have
We straddle our desires and dreams
and the reality that keeps unfolding
as the light that is our mother
walks down the darkened tunnel
to her next destination,
her heart and ours
linked beyond space and time,
a mindful reminder
that this is as far as we can get
This present moment
All we ever have.
January reminds me that for all my someday thinking “that this is as far as we can get.” The present moment is the only place we can be.
So let us be. This week’s bliss initiative is to be in the present moment. When you catch yourself drifting off to someday, later or next, take a deep breath and lean in to This moment. This All we ever have.
Tamara and January are here each Monday to help set the mood for the week!
My mission is fulfilling a lifelong desire to be a creative professional making a positive difference in the lives of those I encounter. Photographing unique personalities in a fun and relaxed environment. To challenge myself creatively, listen deeply and take a damn good picture.
See Tamara’s photography on her Facebook Page.
January Handl is first and always a mother, has been a preschool teacher and parent educator for 25 years. She is currently lives in Aptos California AND simply in awe of existence.
She calls her photo “hot tub bliss” 🙂
