Linda Adsetts and The Group are here with their weekly Go for the Joy message. Enjoy!
Laughter is something that doesn’t come easily to me. I believe that is why I am the messenger of The Group whose message is Go For The Joy. They are a constant reminder for me.
Laughter is a release, it is healing and it can be a whole lot of fun.
A few years ago I was in a rather difficult and transformational time. I was driving to the hairdresser and the radio was on. Stuart Maclean of Vinyl Café was on CBC radio, a Canadian station. (You can find his stories archived on CBC.com)
Stuart Maclean is a storyteller with a comedic bent. The story that day was about a cat that inadvertently joined the family on a summer road trip in a car where the AC was broken. It tickled my funny bone in a big way! I was laughing and banging the steering wheel of my car. Anyone who saw me must have thought that I was slightly demented. I may have been.
The story reached the crescendo with them returning home to their cat sitter who had dragged an unknown cat, thinking it belonged to them, into their home to look after it. As the story ended I moved from gut wrenching laughter into gut wrenching sobs. Laughter released all the emotional energy that was locked into my body and it was the beginning of my healing.
“My body needs laughter as much as it needs tears. Both are cleansers of stress.
~Mahogany SilverRain, Ebony Encounters: A Trilogy of Erotic Tales
I have a very clear memory of rolling on the floor, all by myself, laughing at a Seinfeld show. It tickled my funny bone that day. I have found that out, one day a TV. Episode or film will tickle my funny bone and as time moves on and I watch it again, anticipating some fun laughter, it doesn’t happen! It’s rather disappointing but it does make sense!
I am not the same person as the person who watched it the first time. Time has passed and my mood isn’t matching the energy of the show.
I sometimes wish I could be more like my husband. He laughs easily and often. He will look at me and ask me, “Why aren’t you laughing?” I will reply, “I smiled.”
It isn’t the same and so when I find something funny, I joyfully immerse myself in it. Sometimes it is a thought that popped in or a quick quip I was responding with and found so funny that I could barely sputter it out.
All of these are delicious moments. They may be different but the common theme of
my funny bone being tickled into laughter is something that I thoroughly enjoy when I find myself in that moment. I only have one question-what would it take to have more of that in my life?
“It is cheerful to God when you rejoice or laugh from the bottom of your heart.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
And so it is, dear ones, all of you recognize that laughter is a much needed commodity on your planet. Those that tease you into laughter are not to be dismissed as simpletons or have no value. Their value is immense in the grand scheme of life on planet earth. They lift you up energetically into a place that is more joyful and more allowing. You cannot be in laughter and easily find anything but that which matches it.
There are many types of humor that will match you in a particular point of your life. Some of it will have you laughing with recognition and some of it will have you laughing at the absurdity of it all. Both kinds are valuable and totally necessary to life on planet earth. Humans have the ability to laugh. That is a gift that not all beings have. That must tell you something. You were born to laugh.
Your youngest are willing to find anything funny. They are willing to laugh at the silliest and simplest of things and when you hear their laughter you are uplifted into a place that feels so very good to you.
That is because it is your birthright. We suggest that you play along with them when you have the chance. Play the peek a boo game, exchange the knock knock jokes and whenever you find the opportunity to be with them in something that tickles their funny bone-jump in and go along for the ride.
You will never be disappointed by it and so perhaps they can teach you something-for those of you, like Linda, who find it not so easy to slip into laughter. You were born to laugh. It is a gift. We suggest you grab every opportunity to be in it.
After all we are all about the joy and laughter is a very large part of that.
